Skanska Launches Construction Management Building Blocks Program in Atlanta

Skanska launches its Construction Management Building Blocks (CMBB) program in Atlanta, expanding the award-winning initiative to more than two dozen local small businesses. The free coaching and education program helps small, minority- and women-owned construction firms strengthen operations, grow capacity and position themselves for long-term success.

“The CMBB program accelerates our relationship building with small business leaders in our region and offers participants tools they can leverage to run their businesses successfully,” says Matt Frey, GM, Skanska Atlanta operations. “We want to ensure these businesses feel supported and have access to the resources they need to thrive.”

The CMBB curriculum covers key topics such as certification basics, competitive bidding and estimating, insurance requirements, prequalification processes, marketing strategies, project scheduling, billing procedures, safety standards and closeout workstream tactics. Participants learn directly from Skanska leaders and industry experts while gaining insights into best practices for running a successful construction business.

Since its launch in 2006, the CMBB program has graduated more than 800 companies nationwide, generating approximately $740 million in contracts between Skanska and program participants. The initiative celebrates diversity, strengthens partnerships and builds community by equipping small firms with the knowledge and confidence to compete in an evolving marketplace.

Skanska’s Atlanta program combines virtual learning with in-person networking opportunities, giving participants direct access to mentorship and project leaders. Those who complete the program in December earn certificates and join a growing national network of CMBB graduates who continue to benefit from ongoing connections with Skanska.

“When we support small businesses in our local communities, everyone benefits,” says Ashley Hunter, Subcontractor Engagement Coordinator, Skanska. “Strong partnerships create opportunities not just for individual firms but for the entire construction ecosystem. By helping smaller companies build capacity and succeed, we’re contributing to a more resilient and inclusive industry for all.”
