Ayers Saint Gross has unveiled a bold new suite of environmental graphics and branded signage across 55 key spaces at Baltimore’s Coppin State University, reinforcing campus identity and enhancing the daily experience for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
The award-winning interdisciplinary design firm, which completed Coppin State’s Facilities Master Plan in 2022, collaborated with the university to pinpoint circulation routes, entrances and communal spaces most in need of visual impact. The result is a dynamic campaign that improves wayfinding while celebrating Coppin State’s legacy and culture.
Highlights include a wall-sized Coppin State sign at the Physical Education Complex entrance and a double-height feature wall with three-dimensional lyrics of the alma mater. Inside, colorful graphics display inspirational quotes, images and affirmations, while at the campus’s primary intersection, bold new letters create a striking first impression. Additional enhancements extend to the administration and classroom buildings, as well as the J. Miller Tawes Center.
“We are honored to help promote Coppin State’s 100-year legacy of academic excellence, rich traditions, and deep community roots through this environmental graphics campaign,” says Joel Fidler, President of Ayers Saint Gross. “This project helps communicate Coppin State’s history and identity to the campus community, visitors and surrounding neighborhoods.”
The campaign underscores Coppin State University’s commitment to lifelong learning, civic leadership and community empowerment, weaving expressive and affirming design elements into the fabric of campus life.
