Swinerton Completes Catawba Ridge High School Cosmetology Renovation

Swinerton has completed a renovation project at Catawba Ridge High School creating a state-of-the-art cosmetology training facility for in-district high school students. The 3,345-square-foot multipurpose space was delivered in time for the 2025–26 scholastic year and supports hands-on experiential learning in a real-world salon environment.

The renovation transformed four existing classrooms into a specialized cosmetology training facility that includes a retail salon space. Features include 10 dual-sided haircutting stations, eight hair-drying areas, four shampoo stations, two facial tables, four pedicure chairs, four manicure tables, changing rooms, and a dispensary for chemicals and products. A connected 20-desk classroom is fully equipped with a smart board and equipment storage to support instruction.

“There’s no work more important or fulfilling than educating the workforce of tomorrow,” says Kevin Smith, VP, Division Manager, Carolinas Division, at Swinerton. “Catawba Ridge called for innovative solutions to transform a traditional classroom footprint into a full-fledged cosmetology salon where students can learn a valuable trade.”

Swinerton served as general contractor and utilized its self-perform capabilities to install drywall and acoustic ceiling tiles. Representing the school system, LMG Construction and Project Management Services served as construction manager, and Jumper Carter Sease Architects designed the training facility.

“Education projects require close coordination with school calendars and onsite safety needs,” Smith says. “Construction activities were carefully scheduled to minimize disruption while students were still attending classes.”

Located in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Catawba Ridge High School is part of the Fort Mill School District, the state’s fastest-growing school district. The two-year cosmetology program serves students from all three district high schools and prepares them to become licensed, career-ready professionals in hair and skincare disciplines.
