FK Architecture Sets Benchmark With 5,000+ Affordable Units

FK Architecture, a Fugleberg Koch Company, is proud to announce it has surpassed the 5,000-unit milestone in affordable housing through its architectural design services in Florida this year. From low-income multifamily housing to senior living communities, FK Architecture is honored to contribute to projects across the state. Beyond Florida, FK Architecture has approximately 450 affordable housing units underway in Austin, Texas, with additional projects under construction in Dallas and the greater metroplex area.

“With nearly half of all renter households still cost-burdened, the demand for innovative, community-centered housing solutions has never been more urgent,” said Ken Linehan, AIA, Managing Principal and Owner at FK Architecture. “At FK Architecture, we view this challenge as a call to action. Our practice is deeply rooted in multifamily and mixed-use affordable housing design, with active projects throughout Florida and the United States.”

In mid-October, Orange County Commissioners unanimously approved the county’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which will allocate $58.5 million for fiscal years 2026 to 2028. These funds will help to address the affordable housing crisis, and county commissioners will select numerous developers to build thousands of affordable units. “FK Architecture is honored to collaborate with affordable housing developers throughout Orange County,” said Linehan. “With our headquarters in Central Florida, it is extra special for FK Architecture to be a part of these conversations and community partnerships with our architectural, landscape, and interior design services.”

FK Architecture has been a leader in affordable and workforce housing since the early 1970s, bringing extensive experience in navigating government programs, private development strategies, and public/private initiatives. “Our designs promote environments where individuals and families can establish roots and thrive,” said Linehan. “As the affordability gap widens, architecture must rise to meet the moment. Through collaboration, creativity, and a shared commitment to equity, we can design communities that uplift lives and endure for generations.”

FK Architecture’s architectural, interior, and landscape design services for affordable housing emphasize shared amenities, such as community centers, tech lounges, and green spaces, that foster economic opportunity and well-being. These areas support no-cost resident programs – such as job readiness and financial literacy workshops – that foster upward mobility. The firm also adds long-term value by integrating energy-efficient systems, resilient building materials, and sustainable site strategies.

“Architects play a key role in partnering with municipal, state, and federal agencies, as well as private and nonprofit developers, to navigate zoning, incentives, and funding to deliver impactful affordable housing solutions,” said Adam Fields, AIA, Project Architect at FK Architecture. “We also have working knowledge of tax credit funding options and multiple programs across the U.S. to support the construction or substantial rehabilitation of affordable housing complexes.”
