Actiu Technology Park Honors Legacy With Timeless, Caring Design

Actiu, a specialist in designing and manufacturing furniture for corporate, contract, healthcare, and education environments, celebrates its  Actiu Technology Park’s 17th anniversary as a consolidated international benchmark in sustainable architecture, industrial innovation, and workplace well-being. Designed by Tomás Llavador Arquitectos e Ingenieros and inaugurated in 2008, the complex remains an example of conscious, responsible, and sustainable architecture, thanks to the pioneering vision of its founder, Vicent Berbegal, high-quality construction, and a maintenance strategy based on continuous improvement and innovation.

From the outset, the Park was ahead of its time: bringing together architecture, manufacturing, sustainability, and well- being in the same place. Today, almost two decades later, it remains a valid model of healthy industrial architecture due to its ability to adapt. Time has confirmed that sustainability begins with design: optimal orientation that harnesses natural sunlight, a well-insulated thermal envelope, and a cross-ventilation system that reduces the need for artificial climate control.

In fact, in 2017 the Park obtained LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council, and in 2019 added WELL Platinum, becoming the only industrial headquarters in the world to be recertified with both distinctions at the Platinum level. Its latest WELL audit, in 2024, increased the score from 82 to 90 points, placing Actiu among the healthiest corporate headquarters worldwide. The Park is a model of energy efficiency and also a living space that reflects Actiu’s culture and values: innovation, sustainability, and well-being. Its biophilic design, the integration of vegetation into workspaces, and attention to acoustic, lighting, and thermal comfort promote health and creativity among the people who inhabit it.

One of the most innovative aspects of the complex is its rainwater recovery and management system, based on a network of integrated gutter beams on the roofs that channel water into underground tanks with a capacity of more than 12,000 m³. This infrastructure makes it possible to collect, store, and reuse water for irrigation and industrial uses, significantly reducing the consumption of external water resources.

Landscaping is also part of this strategy. The park’s surroundings are populated with more than 5,000 native plant species (olive trees, rosemary, lavender, thyme, Aleppo pine, and dwarf palm), selected for their low water consumption and adaptability to the Mediterranean climate. This plant ecosystem contributes to natural thermal regulation, reduction of airborne dust, and improvement of local biodiversity.

In terms of energy, the Actiu Technology Park continues to be a benchmark. Its photovoltaic installations generate more than 7 million kWh per year, 2,5 times the total consumption of the complex, avoiding the emission of 8,300 tonnes of CO₂ annually. This clean energy not only powers Actiu’s activity but also reinforces its commitment to a net-zero industrial model. The use of LED lighting, presence sensors, and intelligent control systems for electricity consumption optimises efficiency and maintains the highest sustainability standards recognised by the internationally certified LEED Platinum and WELL Platinum seals, both recently recertified.

Beyond efficiency and technology, the Actiu Technology Park is conceived as a living space that reflects the company’s culture and the evolution of the brand. Its interiors promote biophilic décor, natural light, and employee well-being, with practical measures such as water points no more than 30 metres from any workstation, fresh fruit daily, and programmes for physical activity and ergonomics.

“The Technology Park was a turning point for Actiu. It marked the beginning of a new stage in which sustainability stopped being a dream and became a tangible reality. Seventeen years later, the building continues to evolve with us: it is a living space that reflects our culture, our commitment to people and the environment, and that clearly contributes to consolidating Actiu as a purpose-driven brand,” says Soledat Berbegal, Board Member and Director of Brand Reputation at Actiu. Its architecture, based on light, ventilation and connection with nature, demonstrates that design can age well when conceived with the long term in mind. It is proof that an industrial headquarters can be efficient, inspiring, and healthy at the same time.

In 2025, Actiu took another step forward in its sustainability strategy by obtaining B Corp™ certification, an international recognition awarded to companies that generate a measurable positive impact on people, the environment, and the community. This seal requires meeting the highest standards in environmental management, governance, social impact, transparency, and business ethics.

For Actiu, the certification represents external validation of an industrial model that prioritises energy efficiency, circular economy, the use of responsible materials, and the creation of quality employment in its local setting. It also places the company within a global community of businesses demonstrating that it is possible to grow while being responsible with the planet and its inhabitants. The B Corp certification naturally aligns with Actiu’s identity as a purpose-driven brand. Beyond products and architecture, the organisation works from the conviction that design can transform people’s lives and generate a lasting positive impact.

This purpose is reflected in how the company manufactures, how it cares for its employees, its relationship with the environment, and its commitment to sustainable innovation. Actiu does not just manufacture furniture: it designs spaces that promote health, connect with nature, foster creativity, and give back more than they take. Becoming a B Corp is not an endpoint, but an ongoing responsibility to continue progressing towards a more human, efficient, and conscious industry.

Since its creation, the Actiu Technology Park has been the epicentre of the company’s sustainability strategy, the origin of its Second Act philosophy focused on circular economy, eco-design, and reducing environmental impact. Recent industrial reconfigurations, such as the Actiu 7 facility, the sensorisation of warehouses, and the optimisation of production processes, reinforce this model of responsible and locally rooted industry that combines technology, sustainability, and well-being in one space.

Today it remains proof that industry and sustainability can progress together, and that workplaces can generate well-being and care for the planet at the same time, when every decision is made with purpose, responsibility, and vision for the future.
