The Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia) brought together construction students from nine counties for the annual AGC Metro Atlanta Skills Challenge in October at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the event will showcase the skills of over 150 high school competitors across 12 construction disciplines including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVACR, masonry, welding and heavy equipment operations.
The Metro Atlanta Skills Challenge is one of eight regional competitions held statewide that together will engage more than 2,000 students from over 100 schools. Designed to connect classroom learning with career opportunity, the event features interactive activities hosted by construction professionals and local contractors who share insights about industry pathways and on-the-job skills.
“We take pride in partnering with local industry as one of the host contractors, aiming to develop our future workforce and promote careers in construction,” says Blake Riedling with Brasfield & Gorrie.
Beyond competition, the day also serves as a learning opportunity for the 200 additional students observing in preparation for future participation. According to AGC Georgia Executive VP Zach Fields, events like this highlight the impact of educators and mentors who help students translate technical knowledge into real-world expertise.
“High school instructors who teach construction-related curriculum are frontline champions for careers in the construction industry,” Fields says. “It’s exciting to see young men and women showcasing their trade talents in an atmosphere that celebrates skill and dedication.”
Winners from the competition who are SkillsUSA Georgia members will have the chance to advance to the 2026 State Leadership and Skills Competition. For more information, visit www.agcga.org/skills.
