Horton Launches certified Bullet-Resistant Sliding Doors

Horton Launches certified Bullet-Resistant Sliding Doors

Horton Automatics is proud to unveil the HD-Ballistic, a rigorously tested, bullet-resistant sliding door system certified to UL 752 Level 3 standards. This launch positions Horton as a key player in high-security access solutions for healthcare, commercial and public facilities where enhanced protection is critical. The HD-Ballistic fills a longstanding gap in the market for sliding aluminum-and-glass bullet-resistant doors. It is a direct response to project demands such as the multi-billion-dollar Indiana University Medical Center installation in 2025, where bullet-resistance was a requirement.

Why Ballistic Doors Matter:

In an era of increasing security concerns, ballistic doors are no longer niche – they’re essential. Facilities such as hospitals, government buildings, schools and financial institutions face growing threats that demand proactive safety measures. The HD-Ballistic provides a critical layer of protection, helping to safeguard occupants while maintaining accessibility and design integrity.

Tested and Proven:

The HD-Ballistic passed full-scale ballistic resistance testing conducted by Intertek, withstanding .44 Magnum rounds under extreme thermal conditions, including -26°F to 120°F. The door structure integrates reinforced aluminum frames, Kevlar fiber infill and ballistic-grade glazing by Trulite.

Key Features:

  • UL 752 Level 3 certified
  • Sliding configuration with minimal visible fasteners
  • Customizable in anodized, powder coat, wet paint and clad finishes
  • Engineered for operator compatibility with heavy-duty panels (up to 350 lbs.)
  • Options for keyswitch, battery backup and fail-safe autolocks
  • Available in single and bi-parting formats

Industry Applications:

The HD-Ballistic is ideal for:

  • Healthcare: emergency departments, behavioral health units and trauma centers
  • Education: entrances to administrative offices and secure vestibules
  • Government & Public Buildings: courthouses, city halls and police stations
  • Commercial Spaces: Banks, data centers and high-value retail locations

“HD-Ballistic enables Horton to compete directly with long-standing market leaders and unlocks new revenue streams through high-margin security packages,” said J Elias Campos, Vice President of Marketing. “More importantly, it offers peace of mind without sacrificing design or automation. While some manufacturers market products that meet certain portions of UL 752, Horton is the only manufacturer truly certified to comply with all the requirements of this standard.”
