GAF Roofing Academy Joins Department of Defense SkillBridge Program

GAF has earned Department of Defense approval for its Roofing Academy under the SkillBridge program—a milestone that expands the Academy’s reach and creates new pathways to long-term careers for transitioning service members.

The SkillBridge designation positions the GAF Roofing Academy as a national resource that equips service members with classroom and hands-on training while connecting them with a network of GAF-certified contractors seeking highly skilled, disciplined talent.

“GAF has a strong track record of supporting our service men and women, and the addition of GAF Roofing Academy under the SkillBridge program allows us to broaden our impact,” says Chris Rector, CMO at GAF. “The combination of our industry-leading training and network of GAF-certified contractors will further strengthen our industry and provide pathways to rewarding, long-term careers for veterans.”

The program builds on existing partnerships GAF has forged with organizations such as the Army Career Skills Program, Medical Evaluation Board Career Skills Program, NextOp, Work for Warriors, Veterans Affairs, Colorado Veterans Project, and Team Rubicon. Over the last five years, these collaborations have helped GAF deliver training to service members nationwide, with 43% of graduates placed in stable, good-paying jobs.

Launched in 2020, the tuition-free GAF Roofing Academy provides training in residential and commercial installation, in-home sales, and storm restoration. Open to all—including veterans, justice-involved individuals, and minorities—the Academy has trained more than 4,400 individuals to date, with over 2,500 graduates placed into roofing industry jobs.
