McShane Construction Company’s Wisconsin Regional Office has been selected to build The Conway at Huxley Yards, a new affordable housing community in Madison, Wisconsin. The five-story development, commissioned by repeat client Lincoln Avenue Communities (LAC), will feature 50 affordable apartments designed to meet high standards of sustainability and resident comfort.
“We’re proud to continue our partnership with Lincoln Avenue Communities and begin our fourth project together,” says Alison Gorham, VP & Director of Wisconsin Operations at McShane. “We’re excited to watch this development come to life and provide much-needed affordable housing in Madison.”
Project Highlights
Located on a 1.7-acre site at 1846 Commercial Avenue, The Conway will include a podium-style building with four wood-framed residential levels above a single-story, above-grade precast parking garage. The exterior design blends Hardie fiber-cement siding, brick, and aluminum panel trim for a modern, durable finish.
Inside, each apartment will offer upscale finishes such as luxury vinyl tile flooring, granite countertops, and stainless-steel appliances. Residents will also have access to community amenities, including a fitness center, community room, mail room, and leasing office.
The development is designed to achieve Wisconsin Green Built Homes Gold Certification and Energy Star Multifamily Certification, and it participates in the EPA Indoor AirPlus program—underscoring its commitment to sustainability and healthy living environments.
“Lincoln Avenue Communities is proud to have an opportunity to partner again with the McShane team on our fourth Wisconsin development together,” says Kevin McDonell, VP & Regional Project Partner, Development at LAC. “As a mission-driven development company that prides ourselves in building long-term partnerships, we are incredibly proud and thankful for the partnerships with Dane County, the City of Madison, and McShane Construction that are helping to provide much-needed affordable housing for the community.”
Timeline and Partners
The project, designed by Knothe & Bruce Architects, is scheduled for completion in Q3 2026. McShane is also currently building The Flats at Bishop’s Woods, a 203-unit affordable housing community in Brookfield, Wisconsin, also with LAC.
