Design Challenges Become Design Highlights

Design Challenges Become Design Highlights

The Turf Design Experience Center, designed by Elizabeth Von Lehe, ASID, NCIDQ, Principal, Senior Interior Design Leader, CannonDesign, is made up of three distinct spaces: a multisensory, immersive showroom, Turf’s corporate design offices and a prototyping space.  The experience, however, starts in the hallway.

Leading up to the entrance of the showroom is a glass storefront spanning the length of Turf’s prototyping space and showroom path. As a hard, reflective surface, the glass contributed to the interior’s poor sound performance, which, as a challenge, resulted in Turf’s eye-catching interactive storefront. Drawing from the brand’s playful nature, the storefront interior is lined with Turf’s custom panels with small cutouts throughout, allowing passersby to peek in the prototyping space and showroom, further inviting them stop by for the full experience.

Visitors will find another notable feature of the space in the office, where an immovable ceiling duct lives. Existing infrastructure is a normal ‘issue’ in renovating interiors and a problem that Turf is no stranger to. So, with their selection of acoustic ceiling solutions – made with standard and custom options to work around existing fixtures – it was easy to find a solution for the duct. What was once an unattractive duct that ran through the entire office was transformed into an aesthetic wayfinding element using a custom Turf ceiling solution that brought color (from Turf’s exclusive Hues palette) and style into the office.

Beyond the design challenges that were turned into highlights of the space, the Turf Design Experience Center overall is a well-designed, stunning space that provides a look at how Turf – both its teams and products – works.
