Vantage Builders Completes Expansion for Brown University Health

Vantage Builders Inc., a commercial contractor celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has completed a 7,000-square-foot expansion of Brown University Health’s primary care center in Cranston, Rhode Island. The project is the contractor’s first for Brown University Health, adding to its portfolio of more than 60 healthcare-related builds.

The expansion allowed Brown University Health to consolidate physicians, nurses and staff from another location into an unused section of the facility. The move maximizes the existing space while broadening access to care for patients in Cranston and nearby communities.

“I’ve worked in the construction industry for over a dozen years and I understand the balance between operations and construction projects,” says Alicia Hedenberg, Practice Manager at Brown University Health Medical Group. “Our patients and providers were minimally affected by the work, and even one of our most tenured physicians made it a point to compliment the team regularly. The team was professional and responsive, and showed genuine care for our patients and team.”

Working in collaboration with NEMD Architects, Vantage Builders delivered a modern, welcoming care environment featuring 16 exam rooms equipped with white noise systems for secure communication, a nursing station, collaborative workspaces and a consultation room. The project also included new MEP/FP systems throughout the facility.

Construction required precise scheduling to minimize disruption. Crews performed noisy work like demolition and saw cutting during off-hours, created a temporary entrance for staff access and sealed construction zones with protective barriers to maintain a safe and clean environment.

“Ensuring that exceptional health care is available right in the community is essential,” says John Connor, Principal at Vantage Builders. “Medical office buildout projects are always gratifying to complete. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Brown University Health on its latest expansion.”

The project underscores Brown University Health’s ongoing investment in community health and its commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a modern setting.
