New footage shows Murphy installing the beams for Stockport’s new Greek Street bridge in just four days.

Over the last two weeks, the contractor has dismantled and removed 200 beams from the old structure, and lifted and positioned beams for its replacement over five railway lines.

Each of the large steel and concrete beams was escorted by a special police unit from a storage site at Trafford Park and craned into position in a carefully choreographed sequence over the four days.

The beams were lifted by two huge cranes with a combined capacity of 1,300 tonnes. They were then inched into position across a 60m gap above the tracks, in place of the former structure, which had stood for 67 years.

The project is part of a £20m Network Rail scheme to overhaul the Greek Street bridge in the north-western town.
